Images Beyond Our Reach
As we are all about the capturing of images here you have to take a squizz at the latest release from NASA. Shown below is a video featuring a series of time lapse sequences photographed by the Expedition 30 crew aboard the International Space Station. Set to the song “Walking in the Air,” by Howard Blake, the video takes you around the world, through auroras and over dazzling lightning displays. Talk about images beyond our reach – spectacular stuff!
Olympic Park By Push Bike
In short three boys, two push bikes, one bike trailer thing and a day cycling around Sydney’s Olympic Park equals good times and some handy images in our book!

Admittedly we are coming from a slightly bias point of view but goodness gracious these are good looking lads! Thankfully the one that balances up the equation is behind the camera.
It was a Thursday from memory and we practically had the blue skies and entire place to ourselves, how on earth we were that fortunate I have no idea but rest assured we will be attempting a repeat performance soon.
Peddling around Olympic Park can be exhausting enough for little legs but so to is running through all of the water and fountains, as little two-year-old Hunter is showing us all here. For the record this time around Riley managed to not wake up his little brother (just!).
Sydney Photographers Think Quick?
As Sydney photographers we always thought that we need to think quick, we prep ourselves as much as we can but more often than not we need to work quickly when it comes to ascertaining the best possible exposure, focus point and composition.
At the end of the day though the speed with which Sydney photographers need to process what they see is nothing in comparison to the bloke shown in the video below, sure the thought process might be a little less complicated (ie: first priority, try not to die) but goodness gracious, the saying “think quick” takes on a whole new meaning when you see something like this.
Accuracies In Perception
This little post is a bit of a rant but also the perfect illustration of how critical it is to choose the professional Sydney photography studio that caters to your own specific needs and tastes.
The print shown below was entered into some recent state level awards and did not merit a photographic award in the eyes of my peers and whilst disappointed (as we quite like it ourselves) we accepted the decision and were prepared to move on until we saw how it was judged by the panel of five.
A quick note on how the judging system works: five photographers of respected ability have a print displayed in front of them and they give it a score out of one-hundred. Anything above eighty receives an award and without going into the complicated details and mathematics of things final scores are averaged out and/or the majority score comes in.
Long story short our print received a 77, 75, 84, another 77 and to our surprise a 60, someone clearly thought it was rubbish and this judgment of 60 brought the final score to 75. Again no problem with the final score of 75 but it does highlight the significance of perception; a print on the verge of a potential award was scuttled by one person’s belief.
Therein lies two big points:
- our past awards take on even greater significance when in our opinion we have entered slightly weaker images that have received awards
- more importantly though no matter who is doing the appraising, the judging or making the assessment of a particular something it is always, always going to be in the hands of the individual – sure various aspects may influence our perception to a degree but in short every one of us know what we like and will judge it accordingly.
So is the judging system implemented at these particular awards the best way and/or fair? We will leave that decision up to you. What we will say is that in our opinion it is a long way from being consistent, how you rectify that we have absolutely no idea; how do you get five people to agree (there or thereabouts) on anything? All we know is that we hold the awards we have won in incredibly high regard and will treasure those that we win in the future. In the meantime though we will stick to doing what we love and that is capturing fine art images through a naturally styled approach and we will let you, our potential customers make the most important judgment of all when it comes to assessing our quality.

A Word On Sydney Photographers
Sydney photographers – just about everything – concept, personal, gift, influence, forever, experiences, quality, emotions, spark, heart, creation, soul, everything, listen, open, idea, art, trip, special, ignite, composition, narration, impressions, coffee, journey, family, build, portray, passionate, relationships, champagne, elements, vintage, reward, past, change, presentation, decision, laughter, communicate, visualization, elegant, spontaneity, happy, conscious, future, stylish, present, connections, dream, craft, connect, remarkable, lives, individuality, key, master, chocolate, friends, captivate, more, perspective, simple, beyond, born, exceptional, seeing, create.
In The Hands Of Professionals
It is a little scary when an every day camera can do this in the hands of the right person though it is great to see that quality imaging equipment is becoming more and more affordable. No longer do you need to wait to win Lotto or come by that massive inheritance, hold off buying the girlfriend’s engagement ring and put that month’s wages towards a Nikon D800 kit and you will potentially be able to achieve this!
Potential Boredom In Transit
As Sydney photographers we are risking the chances of boredom on a local flight in New Zealand so what do we do? You guessed it, pull out the camera.
On a quick link flight from Queenstown to Christchurch in February we were seeing things that we do not often witness and alas we could not help but point the camera out the window and capture a few snaps of what we saw. Whilst the only awards these images might win will be a gold star from my four-year-old for us they are a simple illustration of just how correct the saying is that “photographs are everywhere you look”, quite literally they are in front, behind, to the left and to right of where you (and I) sit right now.
Rock Pool Action
What does the professional Sydney photographer do when he is hanging around the beach and the like with his family? Ignore his two boys and wife to a degree and sets about capturing the artistry in the rock pools (this time around anyways).

To be honest this was excellent fun; capturing images is something I have loved doing since I was a kid but to be mucking around with the family and watching a two-year-old and four-year-old discover the life that exists in coastal rocks pools like these is amazing too watch and their enthusiasm and fascination in what we were coming across was thoroughly infectious.
Book Things In ASAP
“How soon should we book in our Sydney wedding photography?” A popular question to which there is only one true answer, book things in as soon as possible. And that is not just for your Sydney wedding photography but for every service you are looking at within the wedding industry, book things in and then you can fine tune the smaller details whenever you like.
The simple fact is that if you have found that Sydney wedding photography studio you have been looking for why hang about? What is there to think about? By booking things in as soon as possible you can sit back at home knowing you have the quality of professional wedding supplier you were looking for. Whether it is one-month or twenty-four months out from your wedding day it does not matter, you can sit back and relax trusting in the fact that you have the best people booked in for the job.
Smaller details can be fine-tuned any time, especially within professional Sydney wedding photography because until we have captured your wedding photographs the only thing that needs to be discussed is where and when you would like us to be on the day. So again why not tick the Sydney wedding photography box early and know that it is job done?
Photographs Everywhere You Look
Sydney photographers – we have mentioned it before but we are going to say it again, photographs, quality professional photographs are quite literally everywhere you look. I remember thinking that very thing right through my tertiary education.
Whilst working at a camera shop in 1994 I asked a professional photographer to comment on some images I was capturing at the time. I will never forget him suggesting I go home and take a walk around the block and hone my skills documenting what I see there. He suggested there is as much photographic opportunity in me walking around the block as there is anywhere else and I completely agree with him.
And that is not to be forgotten with professional wedding photography in Sydney, or portrait and commercial photography either for that matter. We are always being told by couples and families that they want their photographs taken at the park or on Sydney Harbour and whilst we have no problem with that we ask them why they want to use the same locations as a lot of other people, why would we not capture professional images at their home or somewhere else perhaps? Their reply is often something along the lines of “it is small” or “it is a bit dodgy, there is really nothing there”. The fact of the matter is that being photographed where the family congregates or grew up or where a relationship grew into an engagement documents the story of you as a family or couple, it encapsulates the story of you and isn’t that what it is all about? Does using the edge of Sydney Harbour hold any relevance? If you are worried about the appearance of your home or local park is that not why you have hired professional Sydney photographers? To not only bring the best out of you and your family/fiancée but also in the surroundings you are in.
