A Bath Time Experiment
Our “A Bath Time Experiment” in short involves the photographing and documentation of an eighteen-month-old boy and four-year-old boy running a muck during their nightly fifteen-minute bath. Shown here are two images we captured the other night which has inspired this little project.
The plan is to document one-weeks worth of bath time with these two gorgeous boys and showcase just how messy, mischievous and fun this time can be. Stay tuned, we are off on assignment to New Zealand until February 20 so we will have the full installment for you sometime during March.

If only we had a river with this many stones at our place, Santa would never need to call in again!

DC Images Wedding Portfolio For 2011
Like the heading suggests this is our Sydney wedding photography portfolio for 2011 – our favourites, the award winners, the popular and the images that receive the giggles, smiles, awww’s and wows.
The following images are the page layouts from a book we recently put together showcasing our Sydney wedding photography portfolio for 2011, in other words wedding photographs we have captured over the last twelve months or so.
Whilst wedding photography in Sydney is a common phenomenon (just do a search on Google and find out how many of us there are) putting together a book like this always illustrates the reasons why we love weddings and that is the story telling nature of it all and everything that comes with it – the intimacy, the chaos (especially the chaos), the once in a lifetime moments where sometimes the imperfections in life are just as important as those perfect scenarios.
There can be no doubt that the cover image of the bride and groom hiding under the umbrella is in our top five from the last twelve months, you can make up your own story as to what they are up to! In that image however lies the beauty of Sydney wedding photography and photography in general, the story telling! And not only the story telling being done by the photographer but also the story telling taking place within the onlooker of the photograph, they pause, stop and really take in the image. Every time someone looks at an image they build upon what they saw originally, it is never the same experience and that is just one of the big things we love about professional wedding photography in Sydney and around the world.
There is so, so much to love about what we do and what we see at every wedding we attend. For example look at the series of images where the bride and groom have their umbrella blown inside out or the photos of the silly expressions that appear on people’s faces when they are playing up on the dance-floor. The fun and laughter experienced on the wedding day alone is enough to make you want to keep coming back but add to that the experience of showing a bride and groom their stunning wedding photographs for the first time followed by showcasing their images in that original, hand-made album artwork not to mention the joy family and friends experience when seeing a bride’s and groom’s wedding photos for the first time. Every part of the wedding photography journey is about fun and laughter and the supply of quality photographic images that naturally capture the story of a couple’s love, life, family, friends and their experiences on their wedding day; what’s not to love about that?
Lastly don’t forget that feedback is always appreciated at the bottom of the page.
Enjoy!

Personal Projects – How About It?
- click on an image to enlarge –
Personal projects we believe are of huge importance in our development as Sydney photographers simply because that is how we all got started, photographing what we saw in our everyday lives is what we all did before becoming professional Sydney photographers; every image was a personal project.
And that is one aspect of why we love where our studio is located, on a quarter acre of fully landscaped garden on the border of the Berowra Valley regional park and perched upon the cliff tops overlooking the picturesque Berowra Valley. Now that in itself offers tremendous opportunity for any Sydney photographer but throw in everything else that comes with it, the likes of the wildlife as a whole and the sunrises and sunsets that come from a cliff top position.
So putting commercial, wedding and portrait photography aside for a moment we think is both invigorating and developmental to our skills as professional Sydney photographers. Naturally we do not expect everyone to agree with us however is not everything we do in professional photography about capturing a moment in time, capturing the beauty in what is around us at any setting? So why should what we see in our quieter times be any different? At the very least is it not good to be kept active? Keep our skills fresh?
In any case we love the personal projects we under take, at any one time we have several on the go and for us this is one thing that allows us to provide a higher quality of professional product than most, we see it as something that makes us better Sydney photographers.
The Great North Walk

Having a studio on the edge of the Berowra Valley Regional Park and only metres above the Great North Walk has given us the opportunity (on those rare occasions we have a spare moment) to look in to putting together a portfolio of images capturing the section from Galston Gorge through to Brooklyn….and here is a taste on our first little scouting trip.
We hiked the Great North Walk from Galston Gorge through to the Berowra Waters ferry a while back and the plan is to cover the section through to Brooklyn as extensively as possible, maybe 2-3 times in the attempt to put together a portfolio of images in a custom-designed and produced book.
Projects outside of those commissioned in the private and corporate sectors we see as being vital to our development as professional photographers. We all started out clicking away with the camera photographing what we loved and saw in our everyday life and as professional and focused as we may become as a professional photographic studio our passion revolves around photographing that which inspires us individually. Getting into the outdoors and enjoying the best of what the natural environment has to offer is not only an outlet personally but professionally it allows us the opportunity to renew, grow and constantly learn. That’s our theory anyway and hopefully there is a lot more to come!
HVG – Wedding Photography by DC Images
HVG – A Book By DC Images
Having enjoyed the Hunter Valley Gardens a number of times for wedding photography to showcase the venue we decided to put together an album to illustrate what a sensational setting it is. We printed one for the studio and our clients (not just for wedding photography) to enjoy when they popped in to see us, we also gave a copy to the Hunter Valley Gardens to enjoy having received such wonderful feedback about our wedding photography from the wedding co-ordinators there.
NOTE: if you are looking to have your wedding in the picturesque Hunter Valley please be aware we as a professional photographic studio do not charge anything extra for travel.
The Birches – A Family Home
Nothing about commercial photography, portrait photography or wedding photography in Sydney, this is simply about 68 West Belt, 164 West Belt, The Birches, a place that was my family home for twenty-seven years.
I remember being told four to five years prior to putting this book together that Mum & Dad were looking to move house. Whilst this news came as a bit of a surprise my immediate response was, “boy, I need to photograph our family home”. My reasons for this were pretty simple. Firstly I thought for my own, my parents’ and my brothers’ benefit it would be handy to have something like this should you want to have a look back at things and secondly I thought it would be a good idea to document this small chapter of Casey family history so that those who follow can understand a little more about where they have come from.
Milford – Four Days In December
Nothing about commercial photography, wedding photography or portrait photography, this was simply a fantastic four days spent hiking the Milford Track in the South Island of New Zealand with my Mum & Dad (at the time in their late sixties) and my three older brothers; oh and of course the usual one thousand odd photographs later.
Photography aside for a moment I can recommend this experience to anybody but especially for a family adventure, all of us consider it to be a highlight of our lives especially as a family. The sights seen, the scenery past and the experiences shared is something each of us will never forget.
I love the outdoors and this sort of thing however hiking fifty-two kilometres through the Southern Alps with 10-15kg on your back is not everyone’s ideal way to spend four days, so why did we do it you might ask?
