Kaya & Chris – Wedding Photography In Wollongong

April 4th, 2012Posted by Dale

Wedding photography in Wollongong…….as a professional wedding photography studio it seems odd that in twelve years of working in Sydney we can only now say things like  ”been there, done that, loved it!”

Anyways it was March 31, the wedding of Kaya & Chris and it was all about wedding photography in The Gong; except for Kaya’s preparations that is which took place at home in Cherrybrook and resulted in a long (ish) and luxurious ride in the limo to Wollongong.

Now for those of you who did not attend the day the above shot is summed up by the priests comment that with a hurried manner went something like “where are you going, get back here we haven’t finished” – love ya work Kaya & Chris!

Right from the beginning everything came together well, we had a beautiful day, some fabulous people, plenty of great locations and a half-descent photographer guy pressing buttons – wedding photography in Wollongong was looking good.

Did we mention the laughter? Well there was plenty of it. If you kept an ear out for giggling and laughter In Wollongong on March 31 then chances are you would have come across Kaya & Chris and anyone involved in their wedding day – we love taking photos but what experience is not heightened when you are surrounded by constant fun and laughter?

Couple all of the above with the fact we had a stunning church to work with just a block from the coast, naturally there was the beach and the well known lighthouse and to top it all off Chris & Kaya’s reception was taking place in the cliff top location of ‘Panorama House’, not too shabby indeed. Wedding photography in Wollongong should be a week long event for all it has to offer.

Having not visited these spots before wedding photography in Wollongong really is a goldmine – dense wooded areas, wide open and golden sandy beaches etc, etc, etc – it’s an amazing spot.

Whether strolling on the beach or merely bunching together for a shot of the lads or the girls March 31 was just so much fun to be a part of, can we do it all again next weekend?

Best dressed? Vote 1 for the boys and Vote 2 for the girls! Results: ???

Wedding Photography At Lachlans – Parramatta Park

April 3rd, 2012Posted by Dale

Wedding photography at Lachlans Parramatta Park is a truly fantastic experience and opportunity whether you are visiting for the first time or like us have been there once or twice before – wedding photographs are literally everywhere you look.

Carley got ready at The Sebel in Parramatta and with her top floor and split level apartment location photographic opportunity was not lacking here either, we had a great videographer to work with and with everyone relaxed and enjoying themselves the day was off to the perfect start.

The weather on Friday made wedding photography at Lachlans Parramatta Park everything a professional hopes for, patchy clouds giving us the best of both worlds lighting-wise (ie: full sunlight and some overcast shaded lighting on occasion) and little to no wind to speak of.

At the conclusion of the 4.30pm ceremony which was held on the footsteps of Old Government House (Australia’s oldest public building) everybody enjoyed the shade of the main building whilst chatting away and watching us press buttons and document what was going on.

We were very closely watched at times!

And whilst the conversation got serious once or twice whatever was going on our cameras never took a rest – from some serious chit chat to the fun and innocence on show in the children that were running around, it all allowed us to capture stories in photographs.

And this is as tough as it gets – either cuddles and congrats from those near and dear to you or simply wander around the grounds of Parramatta Park with your bridal party.

The late afternoon lighting gave us plenty of opportunity to capture the wedding images expected of us but more importantly it opened up ample possibilities for the images that were perhaps not as expected - whatever the case we had a superb bridal party to work with meaning no matter what we were up to laughter was always echoing around the park.

And just when you think Parramatta Park has offered all it can wedding photography at Lachlans gives you another photographic goldmine when you duck inside and check out the Old Government House. With it’s chequered or timber floors, huge main stairwell and historic period features and furnishings everywhere you look one afternoon is never going to allow us enough time to capture everything we have in mind.

And then the ever changing light dishes up this for us – happy days!

Wedding photography at Lachlans Parramatta Park then provides you the classic setting of a semi-permanent marquee with it’s custom features including timber floor and ambient lighting. It is the perfect spot for a wedding reception allowing Dave & Carley’s guests to not only enjoy a superb evening and night but also wander outside for some fresh air whilst continuing to enjoy the surroundings of Old Government House.

As usual we were not the only photographer keen on getting a snap of the bride and groom.

North Shore Portrait Photography

April 1st, 2012Posted by Dale

Bit of a kick back to some traditional north shore portrait photography for us here – kids having fun mucking around the park and some old-fashioned black & white mixed with some colour film casts and qualities in post-production.

And not so much north shore portrait photography but more Fagan Park portrait photography – we are based on the north shore of Sydney and our first pick for a treasure chest of portrait photography exists across the gorge and out the back of Galston at Fagan Park.

Funny faces, laughter and cheeky giggles – we love it!

Sydney Photographers Think Quick?

March 26th, 2012Posted by Dale

As Sydney photographers we always thought that we need to think quick, we prep ourselves as much as we can but more often than not we need to work quickly when it comes to ascertaining the best possible exposure, focus point and composition.

At the end of the day though the speed with which Sydney photographers need to process what they see is nothing in comparison to the bloke shown in the video below, sure the thought process might be a little less complicated (ie: first priority, try not to die) but goodness gracious, the saying “think quick” takes on a whole new meaning when you see something like this.

Accuracies In Perception

March 26th, 2012Posted by Dale

This little post is a bit of a rant but also the perfect illustration of how critical it is to choose the professional Sydney photography studio that caters to your own specific needs and tastes.

The print shown below was entered into some recent state level awards and did not merit a photographic award in the eyes of my peers and whilst disappointed (as we quite like it ourselves) we accepted the decision and were prepared to move on until we saw how it was judged by the panel of five.

A quick note on how the judging system works: five photographers of respected ability have a print displayed in front of them and they give it a score out of one-hundred. Anything above eighty receives an award and without going into the complicated details and mathematics of things final scores are averaged out and/or the majority score comes in.

Long story short our print received a 77, 75, 84, another 77 and to our surprise a 60, someone clearly thought it was rubbish and this judgment of 60 brought the final score to 75. Again no problem with the final score of 75 but it does highlight the significance of perception; a print on the verge of a potential award was scuttled by one person’s belief.

Therein lies two big points:

  1. our past awards take on even greater significance when in our opinion we have entered slightly weaker images that have received awards
  2. more importantly though no matter who is doing the appraising, the judging or making the assessment of a particular something it is always, always going to be in the hands of the individual – sure various aspects may influence our perception to a degree but in short every one of us know what we like and will judge it accordingly.

So is the judging system implemented at these particular awards the best way and/or fair? We will leave that decision up to you. What we will say is that in our opinion it is a long way from being consistent, how you rectify that we have absolutely no idea; how do you get five people to agree (there or thereabouts) on anything? All we know is that we hold the awards we have won in incredibly high regard and will treasure those that we win in the future. In the meantime though we will stick to doing what we love and that is capturing fine art images through a naturally styled approach and we will let you, our potential customers make the most important judgment of all when it comes to assessing our quality.

Wedding Photography At Curzon Hall

March 21st, 2012Posted by Dale

Wedding photography at Curzon Hall – our second visit here in less than a month and the weather was no different this time around, but despite the drizzly weather we were plenty warm enough on what was the most superb day to be a part of.

- click on an image to enlarge -

We called in to see Crystal and her bridesmaids in the final stages of their getting ready before heading off to find Chris at Curzon Hall facing the dilemma of do we move the ceremony to the upstairs (covered) balcony or do we risk the chance of a shower, stick to plan A and have it take place in Curzon Hall’s ‘Enchanted Garden’?

The ‘Enchanted Garden’ it was and despite a touch a drizzle at the beginning of the ceremony every thing turned out as planned and provided another perfect example of how wedding photography at Curzon Hall creates untold amounts of photographic opportunity.

Hug and kisses, smiles and laughter and everyone enjoying the location, the atmosphere as well as the drinks and canapes – the perfect scenario for a wedding day we reckon and the ideal set-up for your wedding photography at Curzon Hall.

The variety available is fantastic; a real one stop shop as far as wedding photography goes.

Here we have the ‘Enchanted Garden’ on the left and on the right the bridge leading across to the newly developed reception room(s) at Curzon Hall – the new, the old, the gardens and the architecture, wedding photography at Curzon Hall provides opportunity no matter where you look!

Of course it always helps to have a couple who are just as relaxed as we are, Crystal & Chris were fantastic and never lost sight of the idea that their wedding day was all about having as much fun as they could. Not a bad day just to be a part of let alone be invited and trusted to photograph for them, we loved every minute of it.

Then you move inside and wedding photography at Curzon Hall takes on a whole new lease of life, ornate decorative details everywhere it is tough to know where to start. Beautiful main staircase, every room offering something different in size, detail(s), light and mood and naturally all of it helps tell the story of Crystal & Chris’ wedding day.

Some speeches, a cake cutting, a shuffle (ie: bridal waltz), a bouquet and garter toss and plenty of dancing, laughter and good times made for 11pm to come around far too quickly. Thanks Crystal & Chris for making the day so much fun, wedding photography is all lot about having fun and getting stuck in to enjoying your wedding day and March 17 was certainly that. We loved photographing it for you and cannot wait for you to swing past the studio so we can show you everything.

In The Hands Of Professionals

March 20th, 2012Posted by Dale

It is a little scary when an every day camera can do this in the hands of the right person though it is great to see that quality imaging equipment is becoming more and more affordable. No longer do you need to wait to win Lotto or come by that massive inheritance, hold off buying the girlfriend’s engagement ring and put that month’s wages towards a Nikon D800 kit and you will potentially be able to achieve this!

Potential Boredom In Transit

March 20th, 2012Posted by Dale

As Sydney photographers we are risking the chances of boredom on a local flight in New Zealand so what do we do? You guessed it, pull out the camera.

On a quick link flight from Queenstown to Christchurch in February we were seeing things that we do not often witness and alas we could not help but point the camera out the window and capture a few snaps of what we saw. Whilst the only awards these images might win will be a gold star from my four-year-old for us they are a simple illustration of just how correct the saying is that “photographs are everywhere you look”, quite literally they are in front, behind, to the left and to right of where you (and I) sit right now.
